DLT is&nbsp;declarative&nbsp;\u2014 you write&nbsp;<em>what<\/em>&nbsp;the table should contain, and the framework runs it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From that single distinction, everything conceptual follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Execution control&nbsp;\u2014 In Streaming,&nbsp;<em>you<\/em>&nbsp;start the query, set the trigger, and call&nbsp;awaitTermination(). In DLT,&nbsp;<em>the framework<\/em>&nbsp;plans and runs the queries; you never start or stop them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State management (checkpoint &amp; schema location)&nbsp;\u2014 In Streaming,&nbsp;<em>you<\/em>&nbsp;must specify and manage&nbsp;checkpointLocation&nbsp;and&nbsp;schemaLocation. In DLT, these are managed internally. (Conceptual: manual vs. managed state.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orchestration &amp; dependencies&nbsp;\u2014 In Streaming, you wire tables together manually. In DLT, you reference one table from another (dp.read\/readStream) and DLT builds the&nbsp;<strong>dependency graph<\/strong>&nbsp;and runs them in order.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data quality&nbsp;\u2014 A first-class concept in DLT (expect,&nbsp;expect_or_drop). Streaming has no built-in notion; you filter manually.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Observability&nbsp;\u2014 DLT emits a structured&nbsp;event log&nbsp;as part of the framework. Streaming exposes runtime hooks (StreamingQueryListener) you attach yourself.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auto Loader \/ design choices that work the same way in both. Auto Loader (cloudFiles) is a&nbsp;<em>source<\/em>&nbsp;and is independent of whether DLT or Streaming is driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>One-line summary:<\/strong>&nbsp;Streaming = you orchestrate the pipeline; DLT = you declare the result and the framework orchestrates. That&#8217;s the only conceptual axis \u2014 format and parsing are orthogonal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Which to use:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Want a managed, declarative pipeline with built-in quality + event log \u2192&nbsp;<strong>DLT<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Want manual control, custom triggers, listener-based monitoring, or a simple scheduled batch-incremental job \u2192&nbsp;this&nbsp;writeStream&nbsp;version.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Structured Streaming\u00a0vs. \u00a0DLT\u00a0Live Table &#8211; Declarative Pipeline Conceptually, DLT and Structured Streaming differ in&nbsp;who is in control, not in formats or parsing.
